Driver app
Answers for your shift, and how to reach your team.
Starting your shift
On Schedule, tap the blue Start Shift card.
The first time, the app asks for three things. Allow all of them:
- Location, set to Allow all the time (on iPhone, Always). Dispatch sees your vehicle and your arrivals are recorded only while it can read your location.
- Notifications, so new and changed trips reach you.
- The battery setting, so your phone doesn’t pause the app in the background.
Your organization may also ask for a vehicle inspection before you go online.
Working without signal
Keep working. Arrivals, pickups, no-shows and drop-offs are saved on your phone and sent automatically when signal returns.
Saved on device means your last action is stored on the phone and waiting for signal. It changes to Sent when dispatch has it. You don’t need to do anything.
Unsent records are kept on the phone for 7 days.
Arrive, pick up, no-show and drop off
Each stop screen walks you through the trip in order: arrive, pick up, then drop off.
No-show unlocks when the wait time at the pickup runs out. The countdown shows how long is left. Try to reach the passenger meanwhile, with Call on the stop screen. If you need to leave sooner, call your dispatcher.
A record that wasn’t accepted
Sometimes a record isn’t accepted, for example when dispatch changed or canceled the trip. A card asks you to review it. Fix it and send it again, or discard it if it no longer applies.
App lock and sign-out
To protect patient information, the app locks when you leave it. It unlocks with your phone’s PIN, fingerprint or face.
- Off shift, it signs you out after 15 minutes away.
- On shift, it keeps you signed in.
Location is turned off
The app needs your location while you’re on shift, so dispatch can see your vehicle and your arrivals are recorded. If it’s off, turn it back on in your phone’s settings:
- iPhone: Settings → ride.dev → Location → Always. Leave Precise Location on.
- Android: Settings → Apps → ride.dev → Permissions → Location → Allow all the time. Leave Use precise location on.
Menu names vary a little between phone makers and versions.
Ending your shift
Open Profile and turn off the On Shift switch. If your organization requires it, you’ll do a post-shift inspection first.
Who to contact
In an emergency, call 911 first. Then tell your dispatcher.
Trip in progress? Your dispatcher can change, reassign or cancel a trip. Use Call on the stop screen to reach the passenger or the office.
For anything else, use Contact on the app’s Help & support screen to reach your organization’s support.
